Stagnant Characters In A Ruined Game

[You have saved humanity from extinction]

A grand moment.

The multiple tragedies that threatened the  end of humanity were ultimately vanquished after a long period of time.

But the man who pulled off such a feat was acting far too casual about it all.

His hand was folded beneath his chin and his arm was leaning against the desk. For someone who had just saved the world,  he was acting way too casual.

Quite understandably, given that the world hehad just finished saving was merely a game  displayed on the monitor in front of him, a game that he has played for a number of times.

The man clicked through the “Game Clear”  tab that was visible on the screen before going back to the main menu.

The grey backdrop without any special characteristics other than the glaring “WOU” plastered across it was nothing but bland in looks. It’s as if there were no graphic designers involved in the production of the game.

Having already played the game over a hundred times, one would think the man would have grown sick and tired of the game, but that is not the case at all. The man has decided to start anew, as he mechanicaly clicked on “Start New Game”.

The man felt a pang of disappointment at that. He is already an expert at this point, and is well versed in every and all skills within the game.

The character creation was already set to default, whereas the name on the other hand is automatically generated.

Just as he was about to press “Start Game”…..

[Update required]

A text he has never seen before popped up on the screen. The man stared looking right at the monitor, too dumbfounded to react. He somewhat was shocked. Understandably so.

That’s because the game WOU has never had an update before this.

[Time Zone Changing]

Pilthos, a world set in the game WOU. Exactly what does it mean that the time zone of the world, to which is similar to earth is changing?

He wondered if this meant that the timeline is changing to either the past or future.

Perhaps a mediaeval fantasy? Maybe Sci-Fi? The modern day with a twist? Or perhaps a few years from now.

Either way, he was excited since this would mean there would be further ventures to explore. He has already played the game, so much so, that there’s hardly anything new to uncover.

[No skill change]

The most fun part of the game was having to try out new skills. Thus had there been newer skills, things could’ve been even more interesting.

[Existing dungeons set to remain]

Well, had they changed all the existing dungeons then they wouldn’t have released it as an update but instead as a DLC, an expansion pack or a new game.

As thoughts ran through his head, suddenly a new text popped up.

[New dungeons added]

Still, it seems that new elements are being added.

The update ended right after. There was no further instructions nor information, thus he decide to try out the new update. Afterall, RPG’s are best when you have zero clue about what comes next.

His heart pounded with sheer excitement. The moment he pressed the start button, he felt as though something strange happened to him.

There was no burst of light, neither did he feel dizzy or nauseous.

Everything happened far too quickly and without warning. The scenery infront of him just….suddenly changed.

Underneath a blazing sunny sky, a city was visible through the rays of sunlight.

In fact, it could not even be called a city to begin with.

A city is essentially a densely populated settlement. In that sense, the scenery before him could not be called a city, not even remotely close. It took him a couple of breaths to find the right word to describe it.

“Ruins”

The time zone had indeed changed, to the future that is. As for the future he had imagined, it was either Sci-fi, Cyberpunk or Dystopia.

It was a wishful thinking. He was quick to realise what the new theme of the game was.

Post-apocalyptic. A world after destruction.

And it seems two years have gone by since then.
